AJAX 2

What is Ajax 2?

Ajax 2 is Coalescence's proprietary electronic motor controller, data logger and telemetry system. Initially designed by Ben during the 2022 season, it has gone through several iterations and upgrades to where it is today, version 4. Ajax 2 boards have been used for hundreds of miles, proving it's reliability and robustness. 

Features Included:

  • Fully custom motor control 

  • Customisable data logging to a removable SD Card

  • Accurate current sensing with LP filters and high precision ADS1115.

  • Voltage sensing to within 0.01 volts. 

  • Extra GPIO pins for teams to add their own sensors. 

  • 3.3V and 5V logic level I2C Bus for extra devices. 

  • Compatible with twist grip potentiometer and Push-to-Make button throttle types (ADC and Digital)

Version 2

Ajax 2 V2 was a 2022 Q3 update to the original design, it changed the way Ajax was structured and the underlying circuit topology that enables 100% on time of the 'load transistors'. 

Although it ran in five races between 2022 and 2023 without any issues, it was eventually upgraded to the V4 model due to size and lack of peripheral expandability.

Version 4

Ajax 2 V4 is a long overdue face lift and QoL upgrade. Various version 2 features have been removed such as the Seeeduino Xiao MCU in favour of reducing size and complexity. The ESP32 now handles telemetry off loading as it was found to be more than capable in this regard. 

Added features include:

  • ADS1115 high precision ADC.

  • New High(er) Current N-MOSFETS.

  • 100 x 110 mm footprint (From 100 x 155).

  • More spare GPIOs available. 

  • Access to 3.3 and 5 Volt I2C Bus.

  • Choice between Potentiometer or PTM button throttle types.

  • High accuracy voltage sensing (+/- 0.01)
