Icarus
Icarus is the first car built by Coalescence, and it saw many mechanical principles applied, providing the perfect platform to learn from while having fun at the same time.
Icarus was designed over 6 months in 2019 with limited prior experience within the Greenpower challenge and was constructed in 6 months in 2020. The car is in constant development with no two races having the same race specification.
Construction Philosophy
Icarus was originally designed such that anybody without any specialist equipment or expertise could construct it. The construction consists of plywood lined with aluminium angle, consolidated with 3 lightweight aluminium subframes.
The aerodynamic side panels and nose cone were fabricated from lightweight fibreglass in a very cost-effective manner to prove that it is possible to use composite materials without specialist tools while keeping cost down
